If by social ills you mean government corruption. It will increase the ';cost of doing business'; for all of the countries products. It will also produce an environment that accurate planning can not be made (the laws may or may not be enforced). In general it prevents the marketplace from preforming efficiently.

I have had a child who was critically ill. This is apparently a question from someone who has no idea what it is like to have a child who is critically ill but I do not fault the asker.

The mature answer to your question is that you must have both prayers and a skilled surgeon. And it would not matter to me what faith they or the surgeon are from. If the surgeon was atheist, then I would not care as long as he did the best that he could do to save my child. But, I would be praying for both my child and the surgeon.

HOWEVER: my entire family is Catholic and I grew up in a very Catholic religious community. I wouldn't resent them praying for my child (even though I don't want kids ^^;) as it is their own way of supporting me. Even as an atheist, you can't help but feel the positive energy coming from these people even if you don't believe that there's ';Someone'; listening to them.

I remember ages ago while working in a military hospital and a 19 yr old soldier who had no family, no friends, no visitors, dying from Lymphoma wanted a snickers bar so badly but his chart dictated he was to be kept on a strict liquid diet.

He had begged me to sneak him a snickers. I had asked the nurse in charge if it was alright and she absolutely forbade it and warned me I could be court marshaled if found to have granted his request.

The kid died a few days after that but not before I had brought him half a dozen giant snickers--I still remember the look of joy on his face.

The real question is whether we are really concerned with the patient or ourselves and 99.9999% of the time it is with ourselves.

For one, you don't specify a school, so someone who goes to that school can't give you there own opinion. Are you asking in general? If someone were to say that X dorm at Y university is great for partying, you'll choose that university without question of what else it offers?

Secondly, I know very few people who have trouble finding parties in college, regardless of the day or time. Also, they don't really do it in the dorms. Many schools have guidelines against parties in the dorms. If they do happen, they're far and few between. It's also not a risk I would personally not want to take, since most schools while take disciplinary action against those caught drinking in the dorms.

So, one, specify what it is you're asking about. And two, realize that that's not what you should be focusing on when you're about to enter college.What dorms would be good if i want to party, but not all the time? Ill be a freshman.?
Having just finished my Freshman year last Spring, I would recommend going to a big school. There you will find every niche you could think of. People who will party every day, twice a week, never, theater kids, jocks, politically active students, etc... at any school you will be able to find whatever you are looking for because they is a large group of peers to choose from. I would try not to worry about your dorm choice. A lot of schools are cracking down on partying in the dorms. Rather, once on campus, I would find a fraternity that has the right mix of social life and academic focus you are looking for.

Any dorms are good for that. If you want to party all the time, live in a frat house. If you want to party some of the time, live in a dorm near a frat house. But, most freshman dorms will do. Avoid the honors dorms or the upper-classmen dorms, of course.

Unless he got sick from something related to his job it is his own insurance that pays. Comp only pays when you are hurt on the job. EX: while performing tasks from the job you drop something on your foot and break it, that is comp. If you get the flu, that is your own insurance. My husband was on comp when he got hit in the face at work by a steel rod and it broke all the bones in the left side of his face. When he had his heart attack, his insurance paid, it had nothing to do with the job and actually happened before getting hurt at work. Sorry, but his insurance pays. My brother drove tractor-trailers for 35 years. He had 6 heart attacks and 1 stroke in that time but never got to draw comp for it and couldn't get disability. He finally got disability when he got sugar and had to take 4 shots a day, now he takes 7 shots a day. You are allowed on pills for sugar but not shots if you drive tractor -trailer. Work man's comp is when you get hurt or injured on the job. If the truck driver came down with a bout of the flu it's not considered as work man's comp. Workman's comp is when the company picks up the tab for an employee who gets hurt or injured on the job. Your question could be misleading, because it presumes that illegal immigrants automatically lower the standard of living of current U.S. citizens and legal residents. I am not convinced that is the case.

In fact, I would like to pose an issue for your consideration concerning immigration.

We hardly hear about the Social Security crisis anymore. But financial analysts estimate the system will be bust around 2025-2030. The reason? The payments to retirees are from the current workers' FICA payments. In other words, I am paying for my parent's generation of retirees and so on. With declining birthrates and people living longer, there are fewer workers to support the growing number of retirees. The immigrants (illegal or otherwise) are a benefit to the U.S. because they are paying into the system to support the retirees.

I don't know about you - but I'd like social security to be available to me in 2030 when I am due to reach retirement age. So, I say keep the workers coming...I'd just like to see the U.S. develop an efficient system to document more workers.

A hundred years ago women died all the time giving birth. Now, its like non-existant. You are in a hospital with nurses everywhere. They will take care of you if someone is wrong.
As long as you have normal blood pressure, you should have nothing to worry about. I can understand your fear though. I have children, but in this pregnancy I am more terrified than ever before over the labor.

Just try to clear your mind of everything and have a sort of '; meditation'; moment. This may help calm your fears and relax you a bit. :)
Dont worry what you are feeling are palpitations and are common,you will be monitored in labor and they would know if something was wrong but talk it over with your midwife simply because no one should have to feel this scared.
Sounds like extreme anxiety, panic attacks or antenatal depression. In any case you need medical help honey xx I had PND (or as the Americans say, PPD) so know exactly how you're feeling and you really need to be looked at.
Sounds like your just really anxious. I never felt like i was going to die, but I started getting panic attics while pregnant and my heart would speed up really quick. My doctor told me it was hormones.

Well, it is the first day for the new employee, they need to show that they are committed to working there.

If the employer is nice they will see that the person is sick and send them home.

That person doesn't want to call in sick on their first day, or else it will be their last day.
It is your first day so you stay, the job does not have a time or training investment in you so you would be easy to replace.

It is a little difficult to explain so I won't go into a lot of detail, but man is a three part being, Body, soul, spirit. Mental illness lies in the soul (mind mostly) while our relationship to God lies entirely in the spirit. A person can be in any state in his mind and still have a relationship with God in his spirit that is equivelent to anyone else on the face of the earth. The soul cannot effect the spirit, but the spirit can have major effect on the soul. Judging from the actions of this (hypothetical) person I would say they do not have a spiritual relationship with God.

sick and ill are synonyms. They aren't different. You can be sick or ill... it means the same thing.

You need to teach your ESL students that there are things called synonyms... words that mean the same thing, but there may be many words for that one thing... show them a thesaurus. Have them pick a word or you pick a word that you know is in the thesaurus, and look it up with them. Read the many words for that one word. All of those words mean the same thing, but there are just multiple ways to say it. Like the word ';wet'; can also be said as moist, damp, or saturated. All the same thing. Those who don't, have never worked with or known a person who is dying and in constant excruciating pain. According to our union, state law in IL requires companies to give employees a 1/4 hr. paid break for every 4 hr.s they work and an unpaid 1/2 hr. lunch in an 8 hr. shift.
Yes U R. If U'r pulling a 8hr shift or something close to that...U should get a 15min break after 3hrs have passed. Half hour non-paid launch break. Then again the 15mins break comes back after U have worked for more than 3hrs.Hope this helps!

My brother-in-law is By Polar and believe me, it is hard to get family to understand how to deal with it. It has taken a lot and I mean A LOT of time to be able to recognize symptoms and know when he is going through what we call one of his ';phases';. And that is the best advice I can give you is time a patience. You can give family and friends as much info on the disease to help them understand, but until they deal with it a few times, it really is hard to understand.

We now know what to do and what to look for. You really have to stay on top of their medication because when they feel like they are well, they believe they don't need it......BUT THEY DO!! It is a life long process. Time and patience. And good luck.

The only thing I would change is that I would spend more time with my friends.

I have only a handful - literally - of friends. I try to keep my distance to give them space (they are in relationships/married and I am not). Unfortunately, I'm a clingy type of person. I can spend a lot of time with close people and not get sick of them. I always try to keep my distance and have been quite used to doing a lot on my own.

If I was terminally ill, they'd suddenly hear from me all the time. My first inclination was to say I'd travel the world, etc, but it means nothing unless I have people I care about with me.
I would do the best I could to let my family let it is okay and to not feel sorrow, but to remember all the good things we have shared together. To have a celebration party, knowing that I am in a better place, free of pain and up there with my late husband and baby. I do not want a sad funeral. Then I would go camping and hiking as much as I could, eat what I want. I would tell the children a part of me lives in them, because they wouldn't be here without me. And I would tell them to be the best people they could be because I love them so much.

P:S: I would eat what I want too! :-) Also might add I have taken cortisone daily to live (with Addison's disease) I would hope it would be okay to withdraw it when the pain gets bad and I would go within a few days. Is that wrong?
I would get a 2nd and 3rd opinion just to make 100% sure that the diagnosis was correct and then I would start to sell off/give away all my stuff and do my best to spend my last year happy... Eat what I want, read everything I could, try to see some sights before I go...

I don't know if I would go as far as this guy my father worked with... This guy had cancer, hid it for a VERY long time, found out that the end was VERY near... He found out that his brother had been scammed out of a VERY VERY large amount of money and they guy had fled the state... Blah blah blah... So he bought a ticket to California, found the guy, killed him, flew back home, and was dead in under 3 months...

This didn't come out until a couple of months after he passed...

It shocked everyone that knew him.
I believe we are all terminal and should live everyday as though it could be our last. If I were told I only had a certain amount of time left, I suspect I would be torn between organizing my closets to leave a good impression and packing up the car with camping gear and going out into the wilderness to soak up as much life as possible and prepare to meet my maker. Oh, heck...who cares about the closets!

I can tell you what I did when they told me if I didn't take a shot of hell a week for a year I would die in pain. I laughed.

I have no intentions of dying in pain. I know how to fix that medically.

The best numbers they gave us was 2 to 6 years if I did the treatment.

No shots for me. It's been 4 years and I am as mean and nasty as I ever was . What's more I plan on seeing the end of this age.

Nothing makes Doctors madder than someone not taking their advice.

First I would sign myself up for hospice (preferrably a NON-profit) so I would have someone at my beck and call to manage my symptoms and for support. Then I would quit my job because what a waste of time that would be. Then:

Travel to see each of my kids.

Eat all the lobster I could afford while being unemployed.

Write letters to all of my kids.

Snuggle every single night with my SO, more than we do now.

See Israel.

Spend as much time as I could stand, outside and breathe and watch the planet unfold.

Make my peace with God every day.

I said ';It sucks to be me';. It was a bad day. I had taken care of trouble earlier, no more jerks in my life. Insurance was up to date. Not much to do, really. Just keeping busy, try not to think about it. Hope I get enough warning to pull the trigger.

you need to re-inforce your pistons first off, check to see if the compression ratio is fine. then you need a new ECU, blowoff valve, the right type of headers that allow the turbo to attach to it, and i would highly recommend an intercooler, wastegate are optional too but very good to have, and same with boost controllers and turbo timers. also, idk if you already have this done but i would reccommend replacing your whole Intake/Exhaust system to let the engine breathe easier with the added psi. and you will need to invest in some boost gauges and Air/Fuel ratio gauges to make sure everything is running good and right... theres a lot of stuff and it is very expensive. not many people realize how extensive this is
It isn't just throwing on a turbo. Did you ask about what compression ratio is safe for the turbo installation with your engine and do you know what the compression ratio is now? You would need a different computer chip or at least programming or even a separate info box to integrate the turbo into the Fuel mix, detonation sensor, MASS, MAP, etc loop. Would you have an intercooler? Would you use a K%26amp;N Air system? Is your exhaust system capable of turbo applications or will you need to upgrade that also. Will your clutch or stall converter in an automatic hold up? Get a check list going.

Nothing is more important than health. I can attest to this. I have suffered for a year with very serious health issues that have left me bedridden nearly all the time. I had to drop out of school and wasn't able to work anymore. I have lost every aspect of a normal life all within a year, and I may get even worse. I could need a multivisceral transplant or I could even die. And I just turned 21.

No it wont, It is an urban myth, an old wives tale. Illnesses are spread by human contact, either by ingesting or inhaling a virus or bacterium.

I often go to bed straight after a bath with damp hair and always sleep with the window open and have never got ill from this.
No, rather uncomfortable but illness like you might be thinking of come from other people - coughs, sneezes just being near them can spread infection. Case in point - people who live inside the artic circle don't get colds due to it being so cold that airborne germs do not live long enough to be passed on

A very simple rule of economics is to cut taxes. Now before you quit reading let me explain. I did take economics in college and my daughter is an economist. So I am not just blowing smoke.

I also live in Michigan with a governor who ignores what economist tell her and we have the highest unemployment in the country at 7.4% and it is going up to 8.5%

If you own a company and you are making a profit, and taxes are cut, you have the ability to not only expand, [put more money into your product, build another factory,etc.) but to increase wages and benefits for your employees.

The more employees you have the more taxes are paid to the government. Thus no one is hurt and more people are helped.

The other side of the coin is a company is in business to make a profit and it needs to be more than marginal due to the costs incurred. If you raise taxes, then something has to go. The first thing to save money is to lay people off, and have the others work harder. this cuts benefits too.

You end up not expanding and perhaps closing your company. If you have stock holders, everyday people like you and me who invest, they also lose.

Spending in the government needs to slow way down especially the bill congress just passed with some good parts, but the $2 million to build a monument to New York Congressman Charlie Rangel should not be there. And the sharply cut fund to New York police was unwarranted in the face of this, don't you agree?

Depends on the situation. Medical science is not an exact science, that's why the call it practicing. What are the unique details of the case? Why did the treatment not work as anticipated? What did the doctors do to remedy the situation?

But, your point is well taken.

There is not much evidence that the politicians are examining the reasons why their ';treatments'; are not producing the anticipated results. Nor do I see much evidence that they are taking steps to remedy the situation.

Had I been given treatments by doctors that refused to acknowledge that their treatment is not working, despite evidence to the contrary, I would most certainly seek out different doctors.

God gives us many tests and obstacles in our path. It's how we chose to get over them that proves our devotion to Him. It really stinks that you would have to miss out on that experience, but it is just one of thousands of things you experience in life. Sex feels good, but there are other things in life too. It's just harder to get past it cuz our society thrives on it.

That's a tough one. What if sex would cause someone else to become terminally ill? Would the sensations be the same and will the effects of cancer, Aids, boils, puss, and other things get in the way of genital sensation? It would be a bummer to live and not experience the pleasure of love and intimacy; however, genetal penetration isn't needed to experience this. I would rather be loved and loved genuinely.

The only reason someone would become a virgin for religious reasons is to keep themselves pure for the time when they are to see God. When you find out you have a terminal illness, this means you are about to see God. If anything this would increase one's zeal for God and renew the strength of one's commitment to chastity. I don't know about insulting to _him_, but if you are not in the knowledge of Christ, then maybe God (I won't mention His name, since there is only one God and He knows who He is) won't accept your request.

Well the person you should ask is your friend. The gesture itself is loving. Whether or not your friend would want you to do it, is something he/she can answer best.

I am a Christian, one of Jehovah's Witnesses.
An ';insult'; exists in the mind of the beholder. In other words, one person might consider it an act of tender kindness for you to pray for them even though you don't share their religious persuasion while a different person might consider it an offense as if you didn't respect their beliefs.

I would play it safe and pray for him without him knowing about it. Either that or tell him that you care about him and ask him first and see if it's OK.

My sister's fiance was diagnosed with a brain tumor. It doesn't look good. He's only in his 30's and it's very sad. She is going to marry him right away. My Mom said that this isn't really a good idea. She's afraid that because my sister has a better job that they may go after her with the medical bills. Is that true? I think she should marry him. My sister married her husband when he was terminally ill, they were married for just three months before he died. It's very sad when someone comes down with a terminal illness, but that's not a reason to get married. If it was going well and they were heading towards marriage before the diagnosis, then it's romantic and beautiful that the wedding should continue. But if she's going to marry the guy because he has an illness, that's not going to work out.

She may have the idea that she might as well marry him, because he's going to die soon and leave her single again, so nothing lost. What if he recovers? Miracles are rare, but they do happen. Now she's stuck with him. Even if he does die, it's going to be a gut-wrenching experience that even strong marriages sometimes can't survive, let alone a weak one. And your mother has a good point. The bottom line is, if she really loves him, she should marry him. If not, she shouldn't marry him, but she can still be him until the end as a partner and friend.

That is an extremely painful question to answer. I was overseas when my partner passed away from that disease. She hid the worsening effects saying that she was only tired. Serious consequences followed.

I don't live in the UK and am not totally sure on what a GCSE is, but I'm pretty sure it's like getting a high school graduation diploma in the US. Anyway, if you are still feeling really sick tomorrow and are still puking, you should just stay home. Call your teacher or the school and explain that you are really sick and are unable to go to school that day. If the school asks, explain your symptoms and they should understand and you should be allowed to make up the test.

You said you were sent home today, and if you still feel the same, the school would rather you stay home. This is so no one else gets sick and you don't fail the exam. Now if you just had a headache, I would say to go take the exam if you feel well enough to take it, but if you really don't feel well, you should stay home.

You can always ask to make up the test another time, if possible, such as another day after school or something.

For now, just stay at home and recover from the illness you have so you can return to school as soon as you feel better.

There are too many people in the world. I would use the money to cure myself (if I was under like 50, if I was older than that, I'd just die - it's not worth it after that) because one person staying alive long terms would be better than saving say 10 african kids from starvation in the short term. Once that money runs out, those kids are going to be starving and poor again, because their countries do not have the resources to provide them with jobs, food, health care etc. It would be cruel to help them for a bit, but then once the money runs out leave them as they were.
No I wouldn't take the medicine as it's been tested on animals in a cruel and barbaric way. Chemo would only prolong your life by a couple of months and make you very ill. Saying that I wouldn't want the money to go to Africa, but I would donate it to stop animal testing which is unnecessary.

Well, I know it is really hard to give up a pet who has been part of the family for so long. The thing is, you are saying that this would be so hard on you and your kids -- WELL, don't you think that it is hard on the dog being stuck here and feeling really yucky?

If I were you, I would have a nice little sit down talk with the kids to let them know what is going on and then take the dog to the vet. I know it is really hard, but you have to do it. Think about how you would feel if you were helpless and unable to do anything about your situation for yourself and everybody just wanted to keep you around to make themselves feel better. Would you like to be in a situation like that?

I know it is really hard, we had to put a dog down who one day was really vibrant and healthy and the next day his legs were paralyzed. The vet said that it was ';coonhound';, being bitten by a racoon and basically being allergic to the bite. From all the we read and learned about, some dogs come out of this after a few weeks and some never do.

We took really good care of him and fed him by hand for a while. Then one day, we were looking in his eyes and he looked so sad and miserable (VERY unlike him) and we decided that if he didn't come out of it by the beginning of the next week, it was time for him to go. It was horribly sad, but we truly believe it was the most humane thing to do.

Please, don't let your beloved dog suffer. Let him (or her) go. I know it is really difficult, but just get one of your favorite pictures of them and get it framed. Remember the good times. Then, after you have grieved and healed for a while, maybe it will be time to get another animal friend.

This was kind of long, I apologize, but I really feel strongly on this issue and wanted to tell you what I thought. I see lots of questions all the time and have never answered one, but this one made me want to go through the motions and answer.

How Do People Become Exposed To Rabies?

What Should You Do If You Are Exposed To Rabies?

Wash the wound thoroughly with soap and water and seek medical attention immediately. Contact your doctor and your county health authority immediately. Try to capture the animal without damaging its head or risking further exposure.

If an apparently healthy domestic dog, cat, ferret or other domestic animal bites a person, it must be captured, confined, and observed daily for ten days following the bite. If it remains healthy during this period, the animal did not transmit rabies at the time of the bite. All wild animals must be tested for rabies if human exposures have occurred.

Report all animal bites to the county health authority.

If a rabies-suspect biting animal cannot be observed or tested, or it tests positive for rabies, treatment should begin immediately. Human treatment consists of a dose of rabies immune globulin administered as soon as possible after exposure. If there is a wound, the full dose of immune globulin should go into the wound, if possible. The first of five doses of rabies vaccine is given at the same time, with the remaining injections given one each on days 3, 7, 14, and 28 following the initial injection.

People in high-risk occupations such as veterinarians, wildlife biologists, wildlife rehabilitators, animal control officers and taxidermists should consider obtaining rabies pre-exposure vaccination which consists of three injections of rabies vaccine in the arm, the first two a week apart, and the third 14 to 21 days later. A blood sample should be checked after two years and annually thereafter to determine the need for an additional injection of vaccine (booster) if the risk of contact continues. What If My Pet Is Exposed To A Rabid Animal?

If your pet has been in a fight with another animal, wear gloves to handle it. Isolate it from other animals and people for several hours. Call your veterinarian. Your vaccinated pet will need a booster immunization with rabies vaccine within five days of the exposure. Mice and rats can carry diseases, also if they had been poisoned that could be dangerous for the dog. When in doubt, call the vet. Especially if the dog starts to vomit or has blood in stool or urine or anything adverse to their health. She may be snappin and barking because she doesn't feel well and doesn't want anyone to touch her.
She could pick up a parasite if the mouse was infected. Sometimes rodents carry more serious diseases, which does include rabies, but if she has had her rabies vaccine, she should be okay.

Barking may be her way of saying she feels weird, though, so keep an eye on her. Common illness after biting rodents includes diarrhea and blood in the stool/urine, as well as vomitting.

Depends how much school she had already missed. If you mean vomiting ill, no. But if she is just complaining of a headache, and is *always* ';sick'; (Sure, she might be telling the truth this time, but girl that cried wolf) then yeah, unless she hadn't slept at all. I'm not a parent, but my mom has good judgement on these things and she would definetly say no. You won't be able to recover completely if she can't sleep and also the next day you will not be able to function at all due to being exhausted. Stay home and relax and enjoy your day off.
