This has happened to me. The psychiatrist said it was the illness.How would you tell the difference between God speaking directly to you and you just being mentally ill?
How do you know that the psychiatrist was talking to you and that it wasn't just the illness?How would you tell the difference between God speaking directly to you and you just being mentally ill?
well i would ask the voice speaking to me if they were truly god or if i was going crazy. and if i began debating this in my head i would make an emergency appointment with my shrink. its a pity you dont have multiple personality disorder, cos then you could ask for a count of hands who believes it is god.
theirin lys the problem, you couldnt.
lol, Godless's remark pwns
.
the difference is if peple take you sereously and if you have a high respect in the church.
Thats the only difference.
I'm an atheist but when I was very ill and close to death I saw an angel, the brain and human perception does some weird things when the chemicals in our body go a bit awry as they do when you are unwell often, it can seem totally real at the time but on reflection it is wise to consider the situation for what it really was.
I am not sure what you mean, God does not speak out loud,He does speak to us in dreams and visions.The way to know if it is God is if is it truth.
When it's God
If you believe that God is speaking to you, you are mentally ill.
Honestly? I don't think there's a difference between hearing God's voice and hallucinating.
I am reminded of a conversation I had with my brother about a year ago. He said, ';About two thousand years ago, people heard voices and they were called prophets. Now, people hear voices and they're called schizophrenics. Nothing has really changed except the classifications. So when you're reading the Bible, you're reading the writings of ancient schizophrenics.';
There's nothing wrong with being mentally ill. I have a few loved ones and close friends who are mentally ill. I know how rough it is and am well familiar with the stigma that comes with it. Concentrate on getting those hallucinations under control and, if you are in a charismatic faith (speaking in tongues, rapturous worship sessions, etc.) you may want to find another congregation. Many of the mentally ill people I've known only got worse when they worshiped in such an environment. It fed the illness and was counterproductive. Much luck to you!
