Can you check my math homework?

I will write down the problems and my answers will be in parenthesis. Thanks. X=multiply and these are mixed numbers and fractions.

1.3 and 1/10X7/10 (2 and 1/7) 2. 2 and 8/11X3/10 (9/11) 3. 2 and 1/12X1 and 3/5 (3 and 1/3) 4. 2 and 1/4X1 and 2/9 (2 and 3/4) 5. 3 and 5/6X9/10X4 and 2/3 (16 and 5/11) 6. 1 and 2/7X3X2 and 5/8 (10 and 1/8) 7. Milo is making 1 and 1/2 batches of muffins. If one batch calls for 1 and 3/4 cups flour, how much flour will he need? (2 and 5/8) 8. Is the product of 2 mixed numbers always greater than 1? Explain. (Yes, because mixed numbers are greater than one; I need help on this one!)

Write each number in scientific notation:

1. 1400=1.4X10 to the third power (10^3) 2. 508,000,000=5.08X10 to the eighth power (10^8)

Thanks a lot!Can you check my math homework?
yea i think its right. Can you check my math homework?
you have 92% right you are good to go you learn from your mistake
sorry but i am in middle school sorry but try to tell your friends or class mats to let you copy them tell them you owe them one
ewww...
it's looking pretty good....
3 + 1/10 * 7/10 = 3 + (1*7)/(10*10) = 3 + 7/100 =

= 3*100/100 + 7/100 = 307 /100 = 3.07

2 and (8/11) * (3/10) = 2 + (8*3) / (11*10) = 2 + 24 / 110 = 2 + 12 / 55 = 2 12/55 =

= 2*1 + 12/55 = 2*55/55 + 12/55 = (110 + 12) / 55 = 122 / 55 = 2.2181818 = ~2.22

2 and 1/12 * 1 and 3/5 = 2 + 1*1/12 + 3/5 = 2/1 + 1/12 + 3/5

In order to get the same denominator, we multiply the nominator and denominator of each fraction by a corresponding number (any number in nominator divided by the same number in denominator is in fact one, thus it is multiplication by 1 in essence and does not change the value of the fraction.

2/1 + 1/12 + 3/5 = 2*12*5 / 1*12*5 + 1*5 / 12*5 + 3*12 / 5*12 = 120/60 + 5/60 + 36/60 =

= (120 + 5 + 36) / 60 = 161 / 60 = 2 and 41/60 or 2.683333 = ~2.7

2 and 1/4 * 1 and 2/9 = 2 + 1/4 + 2/9 = 2*4*9/1*4*9 + 1*9/4*9 + 2*4/9*4 =

= 72/36 + 9/36 + 8/36 = (72 + 9 + 8) / 36 = 89 / 36 = 2 and 17/36 = 2.472222 = ~2.5

3 and (5/6) * (9/10) * 4 and 2/3 = 3 + 5*9*4 / 6*10 + 2/3 = 3 + 180/60 +2/3 =

= 3 + 3 + 2/3 = 6 and 2/3 = (6*3 + 2) /3 = (18+2) / 3 = 20 / 3 = 6.66666 = ~6.7

1 and (2/7) * 3 * 2 and 5/8 = 1 + 2*3*2 / 7 + 5/8 = 1 + 12/7 + 5/8 =

= 1*7*8/1*7*8 + 12*8/7*8 + 5*7/8*7 = 56 / 56 + 96 / 56 + 35 / 56 =

= (56 + 96 + 35) / 56 = 187 / 56 = 3 and 19/56 = 3.3392857 = ~3.3

1 batch ------ (1 and 3/4) cups

(1 and 1/2) batch ----- x cups

------------------------

x = (1 and 1/2) * (1 and 3/4) / 1

(the obliques multiplied and divided by the opposite)

(1 and 1/2) * (1 and 3/4) / 1 = (2/2 + 1/2) * (4/4 + 3/4) =

= 3/2 + 7/4 = 3*2/2*2 + 7/4 = 6/4 + 7/4 = (6+7) / 4 = 13/4 =

= 3 and 1/4

Is the product of 2 mixed numbers always greater than 1?

I agree with you, if you have not studied negative numbers yet. The product of two negative numbers (=fractions) is a positive number and a product of one negative and one positive number is a negative number what means less than 0 (and 1 too). But mixed numbers are not used so much for expression of negative numbers in practice, I think, especially multiplied or divided. Subtraction may be seen as a sum of one positive and one negative number (also mixed numbers).

Say 1 1/2 minus 1 1/3 = 1 1/2 + (-1 1/3).

Numbers in scientific notations are correct, I'd write here this way: 1400 = 1.4 *(10^3)

I think that you could read a bit about mixed numbers and manipulations with fractions at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mixed_numbe…

Best greetings to your manatee! I'd love to be among them.
