Friend very ill, unable to attend College due to illness will she still be able to get her pell grant money.?

My friend was recently diagnosed with a severe illness and all she is able to do right now is lay in bed or sleep with as weak as she is.My friend started attending college this fall and is currently unable to attend because of her illness. She has been waiting for 2 months now to receive a check back for the remainder of her Pell grant and she is afraid that she will not get any of that money back since she is un able to attend school. Will she still be able to get the money so she can get caught up on a few bills since she can't temporarily work or what should she do.Friend very ill, unable to attend College due to illness will she still be able to get her pell grant money.?

Did she drop out before the semester started or after?

If she's out after then she might, it takes a bit for funds to be dispersed, I would call your bursars/financial aid office, to check on the status of the grant. make sure she has her student ID and info ready.

if she dropped out before the semester started then no, b/c she was most likely dropped from her classes already.

Hope that helps.
All of that money gets sent back to the government. She can only receive if she is attending school.
Has she actually dropped her classes, or has she simply been unable to attend? If she dropped her classes, she won't get the refund, unless she's already been sent the check prior to dropping. The school will have to repay the grant money to the government if she drops and she will then owe the school for the cost of her classes, if dropped after the refund date. If she's currently not attending, she may receive the check. However, if the lack of attendance causes her to fail and thus, get put on academic probation, she'll be ineligible for further financial aid until she's pays out-of-pocket and brings herself back into good academic standing.

If your friend has taken out stafford loans as well, and she's not dropped yet, she may need to look at dropping so that she doesn't fail due to lack of attendance. Or, if she's able to complete the work from bed, contact the teachers to see what can be done about assignments. If she has a loan taken out, and she drops, the grant money will be sent back, and the cost of tuition will be taken from the loan. She'll still be eligible for future financial aid, and she won't owe the school money. She'll just have to pay the loan back when she's done with school. She needs to contact the financial aid department and find out what her best option is, if she doesn't think she'll be able to finish her classes. Tell her good luck!
